Titans Rugby started the 2017 year with a repeat of last year’s pre-season clinic aimed at u12s and u13s. The key objectives were to assess the players and ensure their best possible chance of making their respective school u13 1st XV for the 2017 season ahead. The clinic was held at St John’s College in January and highlighted a number of key guest coaches to add to the high level of coaching that ha become a standard at one of the Titans Rugby Clinics.
A number of basic skills and core concepts were taught at the clinic, with key concepts aimed specifically at requirements needed to participate at u13 1st XV level. The players were measured in various strength and conditioning tests and various programs were given to the players to assist in the development and improvement of both skills and conditioning.
The clinic participants were then exposed to some specialised coaching, on the Saturday, they were introduced to Alex Verissimo, a certified CrossFit for Kids coach and L2 Rugby Coach who specialises in sports fitness and mental toughness. Coach Alex put the boys through their paces and showed them the ‘dark side’ of fitness, although it looks allot more like fun when you see some of the smiles on the boy’s faces as they carried their mates around the field and though the obstacle courses.
Great to see kids so young that are
so determined to learn and get better.
– Alex Verissimo
Further, on the Sunday, we introduced everyone to the one and only JP Kruger, a current EFC Africa rock star. JP took the boys for specialised session in wrestling, judo, balance and core concepts relating to contact, while ensuring they were increasing their fitness levels and having fun. JP Kruger, aka “Tinkerbell” and coach Isak brought such a great level of energy and attitude that no doubt Titans will be having them back on one of upcoming courses.
Overall, the Titans coaches were happy with the outcome and discussed various ideas and concepts with parents on how to assist in developing and improving their son’s skills and conditioning. While at the same time discussing the ideas for future clinics and ideas around core player development. Allot of these players will be featuring in our Titans Rugby team participating at the upcoming Parktown Rugby Festival on the 30th March 2017.
Titans will most definitely be holding more of these going forward, please be sure to check out our events page to see all upcoming clinics and other related events.
